Task
Please write your three answers into a single document for submission. Include one reference list at the end of your three responses.
Part A: Identify what you think are the most important core values and ethics specified in Topic 1: Introduction to practice for the social work and human services professions? Why are these values and ethics important to the profession? Your answer should refer to The AASW Code of Ethics and The AASW Practice Standards.
Part B: Explain some ways the ethical practice of social work and human services can contribute to Indigenous Australian peoples’ self-determination. What are some arguments made in your readings on the topic for the importance of self-determination for Indigenous Australian peoples’ social well-being?
Part C: Discuss some of the challenges that immigration patterns over time in Australia have posed to social work and human services practice, using references. Give an example of how practice has changed in response. The example could be from your readings or your experience.

This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
• be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of practice in the social services and the historical development of social service practice and the social work profession.
• be able to understand and participate in discussions that reflect the contested nature of social services.
• be able to identify and draw on relevant foundation knowledge from other disciplines that inform professional practice.
• be able to identify and draw on relevant foundation knowledge, ethical principles and current debates to inform professional practice.
• be able to engage in current debates surrounding professional intervention in a variety of contexts.
• be able to identify and discuss ethical and practice issues and dilemmas that arise in specific fields of practice.
This assessment firstly familiarises you with the key governance accountabilities for the social work and human services professions. It asks you to both identify and reflect on key knowledge (ethical frameworks) and attributes (personal values) a professional needs. Secondly, it asks you to apply how those ethics and values play out in approaches to practice in two different fields.
At 600 words for each part of this assessment, your responses are not expected to be highly detailed. The aim is to identify what you think is the main, important information from your modules and learning activities in relation to each question. This means you will need to write succinctly and this assessment gives you a chance to develop skills in forming organised, coherent paragraphs. Resources that can guide you to do this are located within your subject site.
