DaVita, Inc. is the parent company of DaVita Kidney Care and DaVita Medical Group. DaVita is the leading provider of kidney care in the United States. Most locations are based in California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Some of the services they provide are Home Hemodialysis, In-Center Dialysis, In-Center Nocturnal Dialysis, and Kidney Classes offered to their patients, so that there can be a better understanding of the causes and effects of each patient’s various kidney malfunctions. Such Integrated Systems as these have what Shi and Singh described, a “positive effect on the quality of care”. (Shi & Singh, 2015 p. 366) This system provides care to millions of patients but specializes it based on each patient’s need. Each case of Kidney failure is different, so it’s important that DaVita prides itself on providing customized care to each of their patients. The point of this type of integrated care (Horizontal) is to control the geographic distribution of a certain type of healthcare service (Shi and Singh, 2015 p 364) This could make the service a little more accessible throughout the country, but I doubt that it’s cost efficient.
